Attitude Without Compromise: The Blacked-Out Look
In the garage, we know that "chrome don't get you home," but a blacked-out inner fairing and a matching shield sure do make the ride look meaner. In our shop, the Klock Krew has seen the trend toward "murdered-out" baggers explode. Whether you’re riding a Harley-Davidson® Road Glide or Street Glide, nothing ties the lines of your fairing together like a Solid Black Flare® Windshield.
However, choosing the Solid Black option is a commitment to a specific riding style. Unlike our Tint or Dark Smoke options, which act like sunglasses for your bike, the Solid Black is a total blackout. Before you commit to the dark side, you can Shop our full Flare® Windshield Collection here to compare the 0% light transmission of Black against our other tints.
The Engineering Behind the Black: Design Over Geometry
At Klock Werks, we aren't just "windshield sellers." We are Air Management Experts. The Solid Black Flare® features the exact same patented design as the shields we used to set records at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
-
The Hips: These add downward pressure (downforce) to the front of your bike, keeping it planted when you're passing a semi or battling a South Dakota crosswind.
-
The Flip: This kicks the air up and over the rider, creating a calm "bubble" that eliminates the dreaded helmet buffeting (the "bobblehead effect").
Because the "flip" is so effective at moving the air higher than a traditional flat shield, it allows you to run a shorter, blacked-out shield while still getting the protection of a much taller, clear one. This is how you achieve that low-profile, custom look without feeling like you're standing in a wind tunnel.
Technical Specs
-
Material: We use high-impact, automotive-grade polycarbonate. This material is virtually unbreakable and designed to withstand the grit of the road.
-
0% Opacity: Our Solid Black is truly 0% light transmission. It is not a "very dark smoke"; it is a solid, opaque material.
-
Precise Fitment: Every shield is precision-engineered to fit your specific model using your factory mounting holes.

Our Advice: Can You See Through It?
This is the most common question we get.. The answer is simple: No, you cannot see through the Solid Black Flare®. If you are a rider who likes to "duck" behind your shield during a rainstorm or if you prefer a tall shield that you have to look through to see the road, the Solid Black is not for you. We strictly recommend the Solid Black for our "Sport" heights, usually the 5" to 6"options, where your line of sight is comfortably 3 to 4 inches over the top of the shield.
Our founder, Brian Klock (a Sturgis Motorcycle Hall of Fame inductee), always says, "It's your ride, you decide." But we want you to decide safely. If you ride primarily at night or in areas with frequent heavy rain, consider our 50% Tint or Dark Smoke instead.
Experience the "Try It Before You Buy It" Difference
We want you to be 100% confident in your choice. That’s why we created the "Try It Before You Buy It" program. You can head to a local dealer, bolt on a demo Flare®, and see exactly where the top of the shield sits in relation to your field of vision.
When you choose a Klock Werks part, you’re buying into a legacy of quality from a family-oriented team that treats every customer like part of the Krew. Don't settle for a "knock-off" when you can have the original, patented design that was "Race-Tested" for your safety.

People Also Ask (FAQ)
1. Can I see through the Solid Black Flare® Windshield?
No. The Solid Black Flare® is 100% opaque, meaning zero light passes through it. It is designed for riders who prefer an aggressive aesthetic and are comfortable looking over the top of the windshield at all times.
2. Is the Solid Black Flare® safe for night riding?
As long as you have chosen the correct height that allows you to look over the shield, it is perfectly safe for night riding. Because you are not looking through the material to see the road, the opacity does not interfere with your vision. However, we do not recommend this for taller heights that obstruct your forward view.
3. What happens if I get caught in the rain with a Solid Black shield?
This is why we recommend the "look over" height. In the rain, you cannot duck behind a Solid Black shield to see the road. You must rely on the "flip" of the Flare® to move the rain over your head while you maintain a clear line of sight over the top edge of the shield.
4. Does the Solid Black material scratch more easily than the Tint versions?
Our Solid Black shields are made from high-impact polycarbonate. While all shields can be scratched by improper care (like using paper towels or ammonia-based cleaners), the Black material is very durable. We recommend using Shine Werks and a clean microfiber towel to maintain the "Showroom" finish.
5. Is the Solid Black Flare® legal in my state?
Windshield transparency laws vary by state and local jurisdiction. Generally, if the shield does not obstruct the rider's line of sight to the road, it is treated as a fairing component. However, you should always check with your local DOT to ensure your setup is road-legal in your area.
