Built on Belief: A Thank You to Drag Specialties and LeMans Corporation

In the early days of Klock Werks, a 20-page catalog from Drag Specialties changed everything. Discover how belief, partnership, and passion turned a small South Dakota company into a motorcycle accessory powerhouse.

In the early days of Klock Werks, Brian Klock was chasing a dream in Mitchell, South Dakota. The company was small, the budget was tight, and the world of motorcycle accessories was vast and competitive. But there was two men who saw something in that dream before anyone else: Tom Motzko and Fred Fox at Drag Specialties. They chose team Klock Werks to build the Fatbook cover bike in 2006 alongside the legendary T

The Early Days: Faith Before Scale

Fred believed in Klock Werks before Klock even fully believed in himself. He looked at the fledgling Flare® Windshield and the bold idea of improving air management on the new Road Glide, and he said,

“Brian, I think maybe you can sell 500 windshields in the life of the new Road Glide.” Brian had his eye on an even loftier goal.

At the time, 500 felt monumental. The Road Glide had been on the market since 1998, and by 2006, conversations were already happening about the platform’s longevity. The future was uncertain, but Klock and his team had built something different. They had passion, precision, and purpose—but not scale, deep pockets, or a national army of advocates.

Turning Belief Into Action

Fred and Tom offered more than encouragement. They offered action.

“We gotta make you a catalog,” Fred stated. The team at Edge Advertising took the lead.

Twenty pages. A small gesture, but for a company in Mitchell, it was a lifeline. Brian couldn’t afford it, but Fred could, and more importantly, he did. Those twenty pages changed everything.

Today, holding a Klock Werks catalog in hand tells a different story. Page after page of Flare® Windshields, all with Drag Specialties part numbers, represent more than products. The part numbers represent partnership, belief, and shared effort. What started as a modest bet on 500 units grew into thousands of windshields sold the first year and decades of growth, innovation, and a thriving category of motorcycle accessories.

Milestones Made Possible by Partnership

Over the years, Klock Werks achieved milestones that once seemed impossible:

  • Winning the Discover Channel Biker Build-Off (2006)
  • Building the world’s fastest bagger (2006)
  • Distribution exclusively with Drag Specialties (2006)
  • Fatbook Cover (2006)
  • Refining air management so the Flare® Windshield became a product riders requested by name

None of it happened in isolation. Distribution matters. Reach matters. But the relationships you cultivate matter the most.

The reps at Drag Specialties, a division of LeMans Corporation, became Klock Werks’ army. They carried samples, educated parts managers on why the Flare® worked, and told the story in rooms full of skeptics. They put their reputation alongside ours, standing by a small South Dakota company when taking a chance on a new idea was just that: a chance.

Every Part Number Tells a Story

Every Drag part number attached to a Klock Werks product tells a story of shared risk, shared belief, and shared success. Through industry shifts, platform changes, and evolving trends, Drag Specialties and LeMans Corporation stood steady.

Looking back at those original twenty pages is like looking at a vote of confidence. It is more than ink on paper. It is a moment when someone chose to believe in what had not yet been proven.

From 500 Windshields to Hundreds of Thousands

From five hundred windshields to thousands on the road today, the journey has been shared. And as Klock Werks looks toward the next innovation, the next chapter, the foundation remains the same:

Klock Werks is a team fueled by passion. Passion for belief in themselves, passion for partnership, and a passion for the trust that comes from doing what’s right and taking care of the people. They stand by customization and personal style while adding functionality. "Its your ride - you decide" is the Klock Werks mantra.

A Heartfelt Thank You

To Drag Specialties.
To LeMans Corporation.
To the reps who have been our army from the start.

Thank you for believing.
