A CUSTOM 2006 ROAD GLIDE
A Risk That Paid Off
As we approach the 20-year anniversary of that iconic build and the birth of the Flare® in 2026, we’re not just looking back but forward. In 2006, Klock Werks made a bold decision that would define our legacy. When Discovery Channel called with an invite to compete on Biker Build-Off, we didn’t just see a chance to build a bike but an opportunity to flip the custom scene on its head. Instead of building another stretched-out chopper or bobber, Brian Klock and the Klock Werks Krew went all in on a vision that had never been done: a performance bagger.
Back then, baggers were seen as touring bikes, not showstoppers. But we believed in a different future. One where performance, function, and attitude could live in one custom build.
The Biker Build-Off Showdown
Biker Build-Off wasn’t just TV, it was pressure, passion, and creativity under a 10-day deadline. Brian Klock and his team faced off against Jay Hart, each builder pushing their limits to craft bikes that turned heads and held up on the road. Jay built a slick Indy chopper. Brian built the Way Fast Bagger.
The final reveal took place at the legendary Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. With fans and judges watching, our bagger stole the spotlight not just for looks, but for rideability, innovation, and performance. When the dust settled, Brian and the krew came out on top.

From TV Win to Salt Racing Records
Winning Biker Build-Off lit a fire. We didn’t want the story to end with a trophy—we wanted to see how far this bagger could go so we took it to the legendary Bonneville Salt Flats.
The first year, we ran with a stock windshield. The power was there, but at top speeds, we hit an invisible wall of air. Our test pilot, Laura Klock, took the bike to its limits, but we knew we could go faster and were in need of a breakthrough: They had to fix the airflow problem if they wanted to push the bike further. They finished that first meet with a record and a top speed of 143.
Wind in the Window: The Birth of the Flare® Windshield
That breakthrough came in the simplest moment: driving down the highway with the kids, sticking hands out the window. Brian felt how air flow changed depending on how he moved and shaped his hand, and the idea hit: What if the hips could create a v-plow affect and break a path?
That spark led to the creation of the Flare® Windshield. With testing, refining, and straight-up obsession, the Flare® solved the airflow problem and completely changed how air moved around the rider resulting in more control, stability and speed.

World Records and Lasting Impact
With the Flare® in place, the bike went back to Bonneville and smashed expectations. Land speed records were set. A bagger that had once been doubted became the World’s Fastest Bagger (WFB).
But this story wasn’t just about a fast bike. It was the moment Klock Werks stepped into the spotlight as innovators, builders, and believers in better design. The success of the Biker Build-Off and setting a world record in Bonnieville fueled the creation of products that work as hard as the riders who use them.
A Legacy Still On the Gas
The Way Fast Bagger changed the game and the Flare® that followed changed the industry and history. The passion that drove us then is the same passion that fuels us and our products today.
At Klock Werks, we don’t build to fit in. We build to stand out, push limits, and keep things fast, functional, and full of fire.
We are proud to say that the record set by Laura Klock in 2006 is still the record today at the Bonnieville Salt Flats for fastest bagger.
