Custom 2010 Harley-Davidson Road King
How it All Started
Back in March of 2010 at Daytona, Brian Klock struck a deal with Shelly Rossmeyer to trade a project build for a new 2010 Road King. Brian had envisioned a mid-60s custom car feel, complete with Cadillac hubcap styled wheels from Colorado Custom. As the saying goes, "The rest is history."
When Brian got home from Daytona, he shared his vision for the Road King with his close friend, Jeff Jolliff. As Brian rushed off to represent the brand at the Donnie Smith Bike Show in Minneapolis, Jeff dove right into the project. That same weekend, he installed the drop seat kit, fell in love with the vision of the build, and called up Brian to ask to take over the build project.
Where the Inspiration Took Shape
The defining moment happened in Scottsdale, AZ, as Jeff, Brian and his brothers were walking at the Good Guys Car Show. Jeff was standing on a rise above the cars and locked onto a green pearl paint job by Squoeg's Hot Rod Shop. Brian was connecting with painter, J.C. Mason, of Rolling Art, who ultimately sprayed down the eye-popping color that became "Mint Condition". The dash even featured a mint cookie to make your mouth water as you drooled over the chrome, paint, and custom touches.
Power, Chrome, and Kustom Touches
This custom Road King isn't just about looks. The motor features a set of billet heads that were a prototype designed by legendary drag racer, Mike Roland, who did a horsepower series for Kuryakyn at the time. The motor has broken plenty of belts thanks to heavy horsepower and now runs chain drive.
The whole bike is bathed in chrome belts, diamond-cut heads and cylinders, and various covers and grilles. Over the years, the bike has seen a variety of handlebars and controls, but it still retains its original drop sear side covers, extended bags, and unique one-off Curvaceous Lids. The stretch on the tank is unique in its bulbous front section and tapered rear, matching the side covers and Guy's Upholstery seat.
The Colorado Custom wheels mimic styling of late-50's to early-60's Cadillacs. Think 1957 Cadillac when you gaze upon it. Just add wide whites, and the custom car feel is obvious.
The Evolution into "Vanilla Twist"
The most recent version is known as "Vanilla Twist" when Jeff made a decision to have Jeremy Seanor of Luckystrike Designs cut loose with white pearl and layers of graphics. This past winter, he delivered the motorcycle to Jeremy, who paint matched a Klock Werks FXRP Fairing to complete this look.
