What problem does the S-RT Mini Fairing actually create for riders?
A mini fairing changes the airflow hitting your chest and helmet compared to running no fairing at all with what is typically a flat, unshaped windshield on top of it does nothing to control where that air goes. Riders running the S-RT typically report one of two issues: buffeting that gets worse the faster they go, or a windshield short enough to dump turbulent air straight into the helmet. Where did the Flare® technology come from?
This is the part competitors can't copy, because they weren't there for it. In August 2006, Klock Werks won the Discovery Channel's Biker Build-Off with a Road Glide the team called the WFB or the World's Fastest Bagger. Three weeks later, the Klock krew took that same bike to the Bonneville Salt Flats and set a national land speed record at 143.6 mph. During those runs, the team hit a high-speed wobble that traced back to the front end lifting at speed. Brian Klock's answer was a windshield with outward "hips" that redirect airflow into downforce instead of lift. Tested again at Bonneville, the redesigned shield settled the wobble immediately and the patented Flare® Windshield was born. Every Flare® built since, including this one, carries that same design concept forward.
How does the Flare® actually manage air?
The "hips" at the outer edge of the shield act like a spoiler, catching air and converting it into downforce that helps plant the front wheel instead of letting it float. The "flip" at the top of the shield kicks air up and back over the rider's helmet rather than dumping it straight into your face shield. Combined, they create a cleaner, lower-turbulence pocket behind the windshield which is what actually reduces buffeting, wind noise, and the fatigue that comes with fighting your windshield for a few hundred miles.

Why is it only offered in a 12.5-inch height?
Because the S-RT Mini Fairing's position and rake put the windshield at an angle most fairings never see, that changes how tall a shield needs to be to actually do its job. After testing multiple heights against that specific angle, 12.5 inches came out as the size that worked for the widest range of riders including a lot of people who assumed they wanted something shorter. A shorter shield on this fairing tends to send turbulent air straight up into the helmet; 12.5 inches is where the “flip” has enough surface to redirect it properly.
Which bikes does this fit?
The Saddlemen S-RT Mini Fairing, and by extension, this Flare® Windshield, is built for Harley-Davidson Dyna (2006-2017), M8 Softail models (FXLR Low Rider, FXBB Street Bob, FXST Standard), Sportster (2004-2022), and FXR platforms running that fairing. It is not the fitment for a Road Glide® or Street Glide®, which already run a factory-integrated fairing.
