The History of Klock Werks Pre-Sturgis Party
Reflecting on the history of the Klock Werks Pre-Sturgis Party brings back a wave of nostalgia and pride. We kicked off this tradition in 2007, right at our shop, as a cozy gathering spot for riders on their way to the Sturgis Rally. Back then, we offered our parking lot for camping, served delicious food, and enjoyed live bands, dancing, and conversation that lasted all night.

In the early years, the party was all about creating a welcoming pit stop for riders. It was a chance for us to connect with fellow bikers, share stories, and build a sense of community. Riders would arrive from all over, ready to kick off their Sturgis adventure with a night of camaraderie and fun. We remember those nights fondly and they are memories none of us will forget!

As the years went by, the event grew beyond our expectations. By 2011, it had become clear that our little gathering was something special. We saw more riders and motorcycles, more friends, and more reasons to celebrate. It was during these years that we began to see the Pre-Sturgis Party as not just a stopover but a destination in its own right.
The goal was to introduce people to our wonderful city while also having a rally feel. "We are small enough to be agile but big enough to host groups that come visit. We love when people gather in Mitchell, especially if its surrounded by gear heads!" stated Klock Werks founder, Brian Klock.

The addition of new activities, live performances, and more vendors transformed our event into a significant highlight on the motorcycling calendar.
Building Momentum Through the Years
Klock Werks celebrated our 10 year anniversary in 2017 with nearly 600 moto family members at our shop to mark the milestone. The Mayor of the city of Mitchell joined us that year and had such a great time that he asked us to move the event to downtown Main Street by the Corn Palace. We decided to take the leap.

By 2018, our party had moved to downtown Mitchell, collaborating with the city to accommodate the growing crowd and the increasing number of activities. Our partnership with the Corn Palace added a distinctive flair to our event, creating a perfect backdrop for our festivities and renaming to the Palace City Pre-Sturgis Party!
Over the years, we've hosted legendary performers like Cole Freeman, who stunned the crowd with his near 100-foot jump on a Harley-Davidson. We've also enjoyed exhilarating stunt shows by C-Bear and his crew. These performances have added a thrilling edge to our party, making it a must-see event for anyone on their way to Sturgis.
Music has always been a big part of the celebration, with performances from artists like Shelby Lee Lowe, who brings his Nashville country style to our stage, and local favorites like Dustin Evans. Additionally, we've had the Tri-Tones and Tim Montana rocking the night away, making the Pre-Sturgis Party an unforgettable experience for all who attend.

One of the highlights of our event has always been the motorcycle unveilings, having the privilege of showcasing some very eye-catching customs. Each year, the Pre-Sturgis Party has served as a launchpad for these incredible machines, turning heads and setting trends.
We've also made sure to cater to the younger crowd with family-friendly activities. The introduction of the Strider Bike Fun Zone for kids has been a hit, allowing the little ones to enjoy some pedal-powered adventures while their parents take in the sights and sounds of the event!
What to Expect at the Palace City Pre-Sturgis Party
Today, the Palace City Pre-Sturgis Party is an iconic event, drawing motorcycle riders, industry icons, and thrill-seekers from all over. It's not just about the bikes and the stunts; it's about the community we've built over the years like the friendships formed, the memories made, and the anticipation of the Sturgis Rally that lies ahead.

Each year, the party follows a can't-miss rhythm. Klock Werks opens its doors all day for shop tours, food, refreshments, and socializing with locals and motorcycle legends alike, and a local Harley-Davidson dealer is typically on-site with demo bikes for free rides. In the late afternoon, a group ride around the lake kicks off, leading riders into the main street festivities downtown.
Downtown, you can expect a variety of food trucks, a beverage garden, car and motorcycle shows, live music, and thrilling stunt shows. Bring your bike and join the fun with the city of Mitchell, other travelers, and the krew. We can't wait to celebrate another unforgettable Pre-Sturgis Party with you!
