Build Breakdown: Doyle Thompson's Deuce

Doyle Thompson's 2003 Deuce honors his late brother while getting a fresh, powerful new life at Klock Werks. This bike is a meaningful blend of memory, craftsmanship, and timeless detail that honors a legacy in motion.

Custom 2003 Harley-Davidson® Softail Deuce

Doyle Thompson’s Deuce stops folks in their tracks the minute they walk through the Klock Werks doors.

The build is based on a 2003 Harley-Davidson® 100th Anniversary Softail Deuce (FXSTD), a bike he received as a gift from his brother, Marlon, who tragically passed away in a diving accident.

Marlon had won the bike in a raffle, which inspired the plates,“I WON IT.” Before he even rode it, he made sure to add the big bore upgrade.

Honoring Memory Through Design

Doyle wanted to keep those memories alive and ensure the bike would be passed down through future generations, including keeping the original black sheetmetal. As he and Klock Werks owner, Brian Klock, began searching for new fenders and a tank, they added a Ness Café Fairing to the plan as well.

The guys decided to transform the stock skinny 21’’ front wheel into something wider by ordering new Performance Machine “Paramount” Wheels in 21x3 front and 18x5.5 rear, giving the bike a proper stance. Of course, matching pulley, rotors, pegs and grips from Performance Machine had to follow.

This upgrade also brought the Klock Werks 21’’ Slicer fender into play to hug the new wider Metzeler rubber (120/70-21). The fender mounts were fabricated to fit the new sheetmetal on the unique Deuce fork legs.

They added a Klock Werks flush-mount Deuce axle designed specifically for those fork legs. With the rear under that wide Metzeler and the front dialed in, Doyle’s mind shifted to performance.

Dialing Up the Power

“What if we added a ProCharger Supercharger system to this Twin Cam big bore V-Twin?” Doyle asked Brian. Having used the ProCharger with great success at the Bonneville Land Speed Trails (which adds an instant 50+ horsepower), Brian was all in.

The team sent the stock tank, rear fender, Klock Werks Front Hugger Series 21’’ wide fender, and the traditional Ness Café Fairing to Brad Smith for paint magic.

The motor is tuned with a Dynojet Power Commander, breathes through a Vance & Hines Pro Pipe, and the ProCharger brings a smile with every twist of the throttle.

Built to Ride, Built to Reach

“The beauty of this build is that the stock handlebars, turn signals, and most of the stock sheetmetal are still used, so it’s a very approachable build for someone,” Brian said.

“The price of a used Deuce these days can be under $5k, which makes it a great custom platform. These motorcycles ride great and are super comfortable. Doyle chose a Danny Gray custom seat for this build.” He added, “The Twin Cam motor is to Harley-Davidson® what the 350 is to Chevrolet®: tons of accessories available for very reasonable prices.”

A Legacy for Generations

This stunning bike, shaped by Klock Werks’ timeless design, is built to make generations smile. A true legacy to Marlon, Doyle, and the Thompson family – they won.
